Hey y’all! Moving right along through our week-long look at this massive ballot. Next up on my desk is Amendment 87. For official details on what this measure proposes, check the state’s election voter guide, but for me, this is a firm, unmistakable NO.
Look, some people might get some type of emotional stimulation from attacking the rich. But let’s get real about how the economy actually works. The rich already pay a massive amount based on where they live, how they live, what they buy, and the local property and sales taxes they generate!
What a lot of people overlook when they jump on board with taxing the wealthy is that money is completely fluid. If you heavily tax high earners, they aren’t going to just sit there—they will move to where they aren’t penalized. And if they move on or abandon their properties, places where they once lived will end up looking like ghost towns.
Tourism brings major dollars into Colorado, and we already have incredibly healthy, successful ways of making money through gaming, sports betting, and travelers. We need to focus on managing the billions we already collect rather than passing reactionary laws that drive wealth out of our state.
Don’t let the slogans fool you into a reckless vote. Do your homework!
