Blank sheet of paper and pencil on a wooden desk

Hey y’all! Welcome back to my week-long ballot breakdown. As I promised, I am continuing to sift through all these measures to help us look past the commercial noise and understand exactly what we are facing this year.

Next up on the stack is Amendment 85, which wants to force all future ballot measures to be written at an 8th-grade reading level. When I saw this one, my immediate reaction was: Get real! This is a firm NO for me.

Look, our ballots are already written in plain language. The state already has a process to ensure summaries explain what a measure does without being overly confusing. Forcing a rigid, automated formula onto complex legal and financial text is just unnecessary.

Worse, trying to dumb down the text might actually backfire by stripping out precise legal definitions that voters need to see to make an accurate choice. We don’t need to clog up our state constitution with a mandatory rule for a problem that doesn’t really exist.

Trust the system we have, keep it accurate, and do your homework!

If you want to read the current ballot titles and see the arguments surrounding Amendment 85 for yourself, look at the official facts right here:

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
