Hello from Colorado, where the peaks are tall, and my perspective is expanding into new territory! Today is Monday, June 22, 2026, and my faith is firmly secured in Christ Jesus! Thank you for joining me as we begin our fourth and final week of exploring the deep psychology behind this identity crisis.
Have you ever talked to someone who was so completely convinced they were right that no amount of factual evidence could change their mind? You can show them historical documents, satellite maps, scientific data, and plain common sense, but they just brush it all away. This isn’t just stubbornness; it’s a powerful psychological phenomenon known as confirmation bias.
Once the human brain falls completely in love with an idea—especially an idea that heals a deep emotional wound—it immediately goes to work protecting that idea. It begins to hyper-focus on anything that supports the theory, while actively filtering out anything that disproves it.
In the Hebrew Israelite movement, this bias is weaponized using a single scripture: Deuteronomy 28:68.
They cling to the words “ships” and “Egypt” with a frantic, unyielding grip. To them, this one verse is the master key to their entire identity. But to keep that house of cards standing, their confirmation bias forces them to completely ignore the rest of the global library. They have to ignore basic timelines, archeological discoveries, DNA evidence, and the literal geography of the Mediterranean. They reduce the grand, sweeping narrative of God’s word down to a single, isolated metaphor just to feed an earthly ego. But as children of God, we are called to love truth, even when it challenges our preferred narratives.
The Takeaway for Us
- The Blind Spot of Bias: One recognizes that confirmation bias can make a person completely blind to plain facts, substituting rigorous historical evidence with selective coincidences.
- The Danger of Isolation: One sees that building an entire lifestyle, theology, and identity around a single, out-of-context verse leads directly into spiritual and intellectual deception.
- Loving Truth Over Ego: A believer learns that true faith does not fear facts. We do not need to hide from history or science when our security is firmly rooted in the infallible Truth of God.
Community Challenge
Is there a personal opinion or narrative you are holding onto so tightly that you’ve closed your mind to counter-evidence? This week, I challenge you to take a step back and examine your filters. Are you looking at scripture and history to see what God is actually saying, or are you just looking for receipts to prove yourself right? How does your life change when you value God’s reality over your own theories?
Scripture & Prayer
- Scripture: “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV)
- Prayer: Father, protect our minds from the trap of cognitive bias and spiritual blindness. Give us a deep, uncompromising love for the truth, even when it corrects us or humilities us. Deliver us from the temptation to twist Your holy scriptures to fit our personal agendas. Keep our eyes wide open to Your entire Word, and let our identity rest purely in Christ. Amen.
The Spiritual Seal
Remember: God doesn’t ask you to leave your common sense at the door to follow Him. You don’t need to bend reality or ignore history to be precious in His sight. The truth will always set you free, but a myth will only keep you bound.
See you tomorrow (Tuesday)!
