Lifeguard in red uniform helps swimmer from lake beside dock

Good morning from Colorado!

Have you ever watched a lifeguard rescue someone who was drowning?

A drowning person isn’t thinking clearly. They may be fighting the water, reaching for anything they can grab, and not even realizing that someone is already coming to save them.

And there is something else about a drowning person that we may not think about. A lifeguard has to be careful because the person they are trying to save can unintentionally put the lifeguard in danger. The lifeguard has to save the person while also making sure they don’t drown themselves.

But God is different.

God doesn’t have to save Himself to save us.

He isn’t overwhelmed by the storm we’re in. He isn’t struggling to stay above the water. He doesn’t need someone to reach for Him while He’s reaching for us.

He is God.

Think about Peter. When he stepped out of the boat, he trusted Jesus. But when he noticed the wind and waves, fear took over, and he began to sink. Peter had no rescue plan. He simply cried out, “Lord, save me!”

And Jesus reached out His hand.

Peter didn’t need to know how Jesus would get him out of the water. He needed to recognize who was reaching for him.

Maybe that’s where some of us are today.

We’re fighting the water. We’re trying to save ourselves. We’re reaching for everything except the One who is already there.

Sometimes faith means becoming still enough to recognize that God has not left us in the water.

And that brings me back to one of my favorite Scriptures:

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1–2

Where does your help come from?

Not your circumstances.

Not your own strength.

Not having every answer.

Our help comes from the Lord.

And when we’re sinking, we don’t have to save ourselves first before God can save us.

We simply have to call out to Him and be willing to take His hand.

That’s where faith meets trust.

And that’s where this week ends.

I’ll see you on Monday for another 15 Minutes with God.

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
