Good morning from Colorado!
Yesterday, I shared a moment when fear came unexpectedly, and without thinking about it, I called on Jesus. It made me think about something else: What happens after we call on Jesus?
Sometimes we pray because we’re afraid, but then we pick the problem right back up. We ask God to help us, and five minutes later we’re worrying about how we’re going to fix everything ourselves.
I’ve done it. Maybe you have, too.
Peter called out to Jesus when he began to sink. But notice something important about that story. Peter didn’t call out because he had everything figured out. He called because he knew he needed help.
There are times in life when we reach a place where our own strength, knowledge, money, connections, or experience simply aren’t enough. That doesn’t make us weak. It makes us human.
The difficult part can be what comes next.
Can we trust God after we’ve asked Him for help? Can we leave the situation in His hands long enough to see what He will do? Can we accept that His answer may not look exactly like the answer we had planned?
Faith isn’t only calling on Jesus when we’re sinking. Faith is also learning to trust Him after we call.
Maybe that’s where some of us are today. We’ve prayed about the situation, but we’re still carrying it around in our minds. We’re replaying conversations, worrying about tomorrow, trying to figure out every possible outcome.
Today, perhaps our prayer needs to be simple:
“Lord, I’ve called on You. Now help me trust You.”
We don’t have to understand everything to trust the One who does.
I’ll see you tomorrow for another 15 Minutes with God.
