Good morning from Colorado!
This week we’ve talked about fear from several different angles. We’ve talked about what happens when fear changes the way we see, what happens when we don’t understand the assignment, whose voice we’re listening to, and what happens when we decide to try anyway.
But perhaps the biggest lesson is this: faith is not just something we believe. Sometimes faith requires us to take a step.
Peter had to step out of the boat. I had to step into a house I wasn’t sure I could afford. In both situations, there were reasons to stay where we were. Fear could have made the decision for us.
But faith asks a different question: “What if I trust God enough to take the next step?”
That doesn’t mean we know exactly what will happen. It doesn’t mean every step will lead to the outcome we imagined. It means we are willing to move forward without allowing fear to make every decision for us.
Maybe your next step is spiritual. Maybe it’s going back to school, applying for the position, starting the business, having the conversation, setting the boundary, or simply trying one more time.
Whatever it is, don’t confuse uncertainty with impossibility.
Sometimes we are waiting for God to show us the entire staircase when He is simply asking us to take the next step.
The Takeaway for Us
- Fear can influence what we see, but it doesn’t have to determine what we do.
- Someone else’s words may have shaped our thinking, but they don’t have to define our future.
- Faith doesn’t always show us the whole path. Sometimes it simply gives us enough courage to take the next step.
Our Community Challenge
This weekend, think about one thing fear has been keeping you from doing. Don’t worry about figuring out the entire journey. Ask God what your next step should be—and then be willing to take it.
Scripture
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
A Weekend Prayer
Lord, thank You for reminding us that fear does not have to be bigger than our trust in You. Help us recognize the voices that have caused us to doubt ourselves and give us the courage to replace those voices with Your truth.
When we cannot see the entire path, help us trust You with the step that is directly in front of us. Give us courage when circumstances say “no,” wisdom when we don’t understand, and faith when we are tempted to remain where we are simply because it feels safer.
Lord, help us remember that we don’t have to know everything before we move forward. Sometimes we simply need to trust You enough to take the next step.
Amen.
Thank you for spending another week with me for 15 Minutes with God. Take the weekend to think about what fear has been saying to you—and what faith is asking you to do.
I’ll see you Monday for another 15 Minutes with God.
