Good morning from Colorado, where the peaks are tall and the tomb is empty! Today is Thursday, and my faith is secured in Christ Jesus! Thanks for stopping by my blog, where we discuss life, faith, and the long walk toward healing.
When you are a child in a blurry world, you learn quickly that not everyone who knocks on the door has good intentions. Because my mother worked her 16-hour workday, my brother and I were often the only “guards” at the door. But God has a way of providing protection that fits the weight of the danger.
I remember staying home sick one morning, playing near the front door of our house on a busy street. A man spotted me alone, turned his car around, and came to the door. But I wasn’t alone. I had Leo—our German Shepherd who was so strong he had to be held by a heavy chain used for towing cars. As I struggled to hold Leo back, his teeth bared and his protective instinct roaring, the man suddenly decided he had the “wrong house.”
In the silence of the tomb years, when it felt like we were “left behind,” Leo was the physical manifestation of God’s hedge of protection. I was untrained and uninformed, but I had a “skilled babysitter” with four legs and a fierce heart. People on the sidelines might have seen a girl and a dog, but that man saw a barrier he couldn’t cross. Even when the house feels empty, the Great Shepherd never leaves His lambs without a guard.
The Takeaway for Us
- Divine Security: God often provides “Leos” in our lives—unlikely protectors that stand between the vulnerable and the predator. These are not accidents; they are the intentional “tow-chain grace” of a Father who watches over His own.
- The Discernment of the Small: A child’s instinct to grab the “chain” is a form of spiritual survival. It proves that even when uninformed, the soul knows how to reach for the strength God has provided.
- The “Wrong House” Reality: One realizes that the enemy can only go as far as the “chain” allows. When God sets a guard at your door, no weapon formed against you shall prosper.
Community Challenge
Can you look back and see a “Leo” in your childhood—a person, a pet, or a situation that protected you when you were alone? How does that memory of protection strengthen your trust in God’s “Guard at the Door” today?
Scripture & Prayer
- Scripture: “The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.” — Psalm 34:7 (KJV)
- Prayer: Father, we thank You for the “Leos” You placed at our doors. Thank You for the heavy chains of protection that kept us when we were too small to protect ourselves. We ask for healing for the children who felt the fear of the “knock,” and we thank You for being the Deliverer who never slumbers. Amen.
The Spiritual Seal
Remember: You are not defined by the years the locusts have eaten, but by the new thing God is doing in your life today. The tomb is empty, and your story is rising. See you Friday!
