The Blueprint: Leadership Lessons from the Living Room

Good morning from Colorado, where the peaks are tall and the tomb is empty! Today is Wednesday, and my faith is secured in Christ Jesus! Thanks for stopping by my blog, where we discuss life, faith, and the long walk toward healing.

When you are a Little Shepherd at age eleven, you are desperate for a manual. You are untrained and uninformed, yet you are responsible for the safety of another soul. In the blurry reality of my childhood, I found my “leadership manual” in the most unlikely place: the skilled babysitter we called the television.

The explorers on Mutual of Omaha and the heroes in The Wonderful World of Disney weren’t just characters to me; they were my instructors. They taught me that the pack stays together, that the leader watches the perimeter, and that even in the wild, there is a way through. I took those impressions and turned them into a profound impact on how I managed our home while my mother worked her 16-hour workday.

Those shows gave me the blueprint I needed to navigate the “fuzziness” of people moving in and out of our home. I wasn’t just “playing house”; I was practicing the survival and stewardship that God was using to prepare me for the woman I am today. You might feel like you are just “winging it” in your current season, but God is providing blueprints for you in places you haven’t even looked yet.

The Takeaway for Us

  • The Unlikely Instructor: God often uses common tools—even a television show—to provide the skilled babysitting a child’s mind needs to learn responsibility.
  • The Blueprint of Grace: One realizes that the skills learned in the “survival” years are not wasted. They are the early sketches of the leadership and strength that God is perfecting in the present.
  • Stewardship in the Shadows: Even when a child is uninformed, they have a divine instinct to protect their “flock.” This leadership is a gift from the Creator that no sideline critic can take away.

What was your “unlikely manual” as a child? What stories or shows gave you the blueprint for the strength you carry today?

Scripture & Prayer

  • Scripture: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” — Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
  • Prayer: Father, we thank You for the blueprints You provide in the quiet hours. We ask for healing for the “Little Shepherds” who had to learn leadership on their own. Thank You for guiding our eyes to healthy things when our world felt blurry. Let every lesson from the past become a pillar for the future. Amen.

The Spiritual Seal

Remember: You are not defined by the years the locusts have eaten, but by the new thing God is doing in your life today. The tomb is empty, and your story is rising. See you Thursday!

I’m Annette

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
