The Stone the Builders Rejected: A Resurrection in the Womb

Good morning from Colorado, where the peaks are tall and the tomb is empty! Today is Easter Sunday, and my faith is secured in Christ Jesus! Thanks for stopping by my blog, where we discuss life, faith, and the long walk toward healing.

Easter is the ultimate story of a closed door becoming an open grave. We celebrate a Savior who was rejected by His own, only to become the cornerstone of our salvation. But sometimes, you experience that rejection before you even take your first breath.

As a family historian, I’ve had to look back at the “fuzziness” of my own beginning. My mother returned to Louisiana with me in her womb, perhaps hoping for a soft place to land. But my grandmother met her with “tough love” that felt like a closed door. She told my mother, “I don’t know what you’re packing, but you’re taking it back to Colorado with you.”

In that moment, it felt as though fate had already decided where I belonged. I was sent back before I was even born. But looking back through the lens of the Resurrection, I see that what felt like the cold hand of fate was actually God’s protection. He was setting the stage for my life in the West, far away from the limitations of my mother’s prior poor choices that had closed the doors in Louisiana.

People might try to give you away or find you a home outside of their own because of the “baggage” of the past, but they can’t sign away a destiny that God has already authored. On this Easter morning, I am learning that being “sent back” by man because of an old cycle is often the first step in being “set apart” by God to start a new one. The tomb of my mother’s struggle wasn’t the end of my story—it was the beginning of my rising.

The Takeaway for Us

  • Fate vs. Faith: Fate tries to lock you into the consequences of someone else’s choices, but Faith tells you that God can use even a closed door to build a new foundation.
  • Redeeming the Baggage: You are not defined by what your parents “packed” or the choices they made before you were born. Easter proves that God can take a messy history and turn it into a holy mystery.

Community Challenge

Have you ever felt like you were paying the price for a door that was slammed because of someone else’s mistakes? How do you find the grace to realize that God’s plan for you is bigger than the “baggage” you inherited?

Scripture & Prayer

  • Scripture: “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” — Psalm 118:22-23 (NIV)
  • Prayer: Father, I thank You that my story didn’t end with a closed door in Louisiana. I thank You that Your purpose for my life is stronger than the limitations of the choices made before me. Help me to walk in the resurrection power that turns every “sent back” moment into a “set apart” destiny. Amen.

Spiritual Seal

Remember: You are not defined by the years the locusts have eaten, but by the new thing God is doing in your life today. The tomb is empty, and your story is rising. See you Monday!

I’m Annette

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
