Good morning from beautiful Colorado! Here, where the mountains are tall and the skies stay blue nearly 365 days a year, I am constantly reminded of the vastness of God’s creation and the steadfastness of His promises. In this high country, I am secured in Christ, knowing He is the rock beneath my feet.
Yesterday was a full day. My husband and I spent time with my children’s father, taking him to the DMV to renew his license. He has suffered through three strokes, and sadly, the toll they took on his ability to reason meant his license wasn’t renewed on his last birthday. As we made our way to Littleton for his appointment, I happened upon a book titled Flooded by Nicki Koziarz, along with its companion study guide.
As I opened to the first chapter, I was struck by a note I’d written inside: I had started this book back in December 2023. Here we are in 2026, and I realized I didn’t even remember the series! It became clear to me in that moment that God makes no mistakes. When I first picked up that book, I simply wasn’t ready for its message, which is likely why it ended up forgotten in the backseat pocket. But now? Now, I am ready.
I immediately began absorbing the author’s wisdom about making better decisions when life is hard and doubt starts to rise. I’ll admit, when I first glanced at the study guide, I felt lost. One question in particular stumped me: “Write down one thing you are trusting God for today?”
I sat there puzzled. My only answer was, “Only God knows.” But as we waited for the appointment to finish, I realized my heart was actually heavy with worry about the license renewal. Later, over dinner at Olive Garden, the Holy Spirit nudged me. I realized that the “one thing” I should have been trusting God for all along was my children’s father.
Once I surrendered that specific worry, I began to fill the pages with my true feelings. Life has a funny way of jamming our spiritual connection when we focus so intently on our own problems that we forget the world around us. When we stop trying to control the “what-ifs,” we finally make room for God to move.
Takeaway for Us
- We often think we are trusting God in a general sense, but true peace comes when we identify the specific person or situation we are actually worrying about. Doubt rises when we try to carry the burden of others’ outcomes. When we name our fear, we can finally trade it for faith.
Community Challenge
Open a notebook today and answer the question that stumped me: “Write down one thing you are trusting God for today?” Don’t give a general answer—be specific. Whether it’s a health decision, a family member, or a financial hurdle, name it, and then “leave it on the page” as an act of surrender.
Scripture
- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6
A Prayer for the “In-Between”
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect timing. Thank You that You don’t give up on us when we aren’t ready for the lesson, but instead, You keep the book waiting for us in the “backseat” of our lives until we are. We lift up our loved ones who are struggling with health and reasoning. We release the weight of their outcomes to You. Quiet our worried minds so we can see the blue skies You’ve placed above us. Amen.
