Deep Water vs. Surface Noise: Drawing from the Source

Hello from Colorado! I am so glad you’ve stopped by the blog today. Grab a seat, and let’s dive into the Word together.

Have you ever noticed that the loudest people on the sidelines are usually the ones who are the most “spiritually dehydrated”? In John 4, the conversation between the woman and the Messiah shifted from physical buckets to spiritual basins. Jesus told her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst” (John 4:13-14, NIV).

The woman was tired of the surface noise. She was tired of the daily grind of carrying a heavy jar to a well that only satisfied her for a moment. But the sideline critics in her life were obsessed with the surface. They were obsessed with the “jar,” the “bucket,” and the “reputation.” They couldn’t understand that she was looking for something deeper.

When you are building your dreams and tending your many irons in the fire, the sidelines will always make noise about how you are doing it. They focus on the “how” because they don’t have the “Who.” They are splashing in the puddles of gossip while you are drawing from the Deep Water of destiny. Don’t let the surface noise distract you from the Source. You aren’t “dumb” for seeking more; you are just the only one at the well who realized the old bucket was empty.

The Takeaway for Us

  • The Thirst of the Critic: Recognize that people who talk down to you are often just thirsty for the purpose they see in you.
  • Deep Calls to Deep: Your dream requires Living Water, not sideline approval. Keep your “bucket” in the hands of the Messiah.
  • Ignore the Splash: Surface noise is temporary; the well of Everlasting Life is eternal.

Have you ever felt like you were drowning in the “surface noise” of other people’s opinions? How do you keep your focus on the Deep Water of God’s Word when the sidelines are splashing around you?

Scripture & Prayer

  • Scripture: “…Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:14 (NIV)
  • Prayer: Father, thank You for the Deep Water that satisfies my soul. I refuse to be distracted by the surface noise of the sidelines. Give me the grace to keep drawing from Your Source so that my “many irons” stay hot and my “nets” stay full. I thank You for the spring of life welling up within me today. Amen.

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
