Casting Your Nets: Why “Too Many Irons” Is a Holy Strategy

“Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” — John 21:6

There is a myth often whispered from the shoreline that if you are doing more than one thing, you are scattered. People may even tell you that you have too many irons in the fire, as if your capacity is a problem to be solved rather than a gift to be stewarded. But the Word of God doesn’t call for a single thread; it calls for nets (plural).

When you cast multiple nets, you aren’t being unfocused—you are being obedient to the harvest. Diversifying your efforts is a biblical strategy for survival and success. The noise you hear from critics often comes from those who are afraid to cast even one net. They see your “many irons” as a threat because it exposes their own cold forge. Remember, if God gave you the command to cast, He has already provided the strength for the haul.

The Takeaway

  • Embrace Your Capacity: Don’t let people who move slowly convince you that your pace is a mistake.
  • Steward the Fire: Having many irons means you have a large forge. Keep the heat up and trust the Process.

Community Challenge

Have you ever felt pressured to drop a “net” just to make people around you more comfortable? How do you stay focused on your harvest when the shoreline gets loud?

Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the many irons You have placed in my hands and the multiple nets You’ve called me to cast. I reject the lie that being obedient to Your abundance is “being scattered.” Give me the strength to tend every fire You’ve started and the vision to see the harvest before it hits the shore. I will not drop a single net just to please a critic. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
