“Our unity as Christians is not based on our masks or our labels, but on the blood that bought us all.” — Anonymous

Hey y’all! It’s Friday in the Rockies, and my soul feels as clear as this mountain air. We’ve spent this week walking through the corridors of my mind, digging into why I wanted to change the name of this blog, and looking at the “color lines” that try to tell us where we belong.

I started this week wanting to shrink. I wanted to change my name to something “safer” so I wouldn’t offend anyone. I was moving cautiously, like I’ve been taught to do for a lifetime. But then my husband—that wonderful White man God sent to answer a prayer I didn’t even recognize—challenged me. He told me to stop trying to hide and start learning how to cross the line while standing tall.

So, here is my truth as we close out this series: God isn’t about race; He is about faith.

When I call this blog Black Women Have It Going On, I’m not building a wall to keep my sisters of other colors out. I’m building a bridge! I am standing in the skin God wove for me, telling the world that if you can find truth, love, and Jesus in the stories of a Black woman, then the “color line” has officially lost its power over you.

I’m done shrinking to fit into a box of “acceptability.” My life has been edited by the Holy Spirit. He took a heart that was once hardened by the world’s divisions and turned it into a heart that celebrates a “racist” father-in-law and loves a Caucasian husband of twenty years. If He can do that in my living room, He can do that on this blog.

I am a new creation. The old, cautious, “shrinking” Annette is gone. The new Annette knows that having it “going on” means having the Spirit of God moving through you to reach every soul, regardless of the package they come in.

I’m staying. I’m speaking. And I’m inviting you—all of you—to cross the line with me.

See you next week!
~Annette

A Prayer for Boldness

Lord, thank You for the mountains You’ve allowed me to climb this week—both in Colorado and in my own heart. I ask for the grace to stop apologizing for the space I occupy. Help me to be a woman who doesn’t shrink, but shines. Let this blog be a place where the ‘color line’ is erased by the power of Your love. Give my readers the courage to see Your image in faces that don’t look like their own. Amen.

The Takeaway

Your specific story is the key to a universal truth. When you are fully who God made you to be, you give others permission to do the same.

I’m Annette

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
