In our society, we are often told that the most important thing about us is the category we fit into—our race, our background, or our social status. These are the “color lines” that the world uses to decide who belongs where and who should speak to whom. For a long time, I let those lines dictate how I viewed my own voice. I thought that because my blog had a specific name, I was only allowed to speak to one specific group.

But as I look closer at the heart of God, I see that He doesn’t recognize the borders we’ve built. The “color line” is a myth when it comes to the Kingdom of Heaven. While our cultures and heritages are beautiful parts of God’s diverse creation, they were never meant to be barriers to connection.

I’ve realized that if I wait for the world to give me permission to “cross the line,” I’ll be waiting forever. Instead, I have to stand on the truth that God is about faith, not race. He isn’t looking for a “color-blind” world where we pretend our differences don’t exist; He’s looking for a “Christ-centered” world where our shared faith makes those differences a reason for harmony rather than hostility.

Today, I’m choosing to stop looking at the line and start looking at the Cross. At the foot of the Cross, the ground is perfectly level. Whether you are a Black woman, a white man, or anyone in between, the bridge to God is the same for us all. My goal is no longer to “fit in” to a category, but to stand out as a daughter of the King who writes for every soul seeking truth.

Focus Scripture

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28

A Prayer for Seeing Beyond the Surface

Lord, help us to see the world through Your eyes. Forgive us for the times we have allowed human labels to stop us from loving our neighbors or sharing our stories. We thank You that Your Kingdom is made of every tribe, tongue, and nation, yet we are all one in Your Spirit. Give us the courage to cross every line that pride or fear has drawn. Let our faith be the loudest thing about us. Amen.

The Takeaway

The world draws lines to divide; God builds bridges to unite. When we lead with our faith, the “color line” loses its power over our identity.

I’m Annette

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

This is a space for the ‘unspoken’ stories. As a Black woman who has journeyed through childhood trauma and family alienation to find healing in God’s grace, I know what it’s like to feel lost in the shadows.

But I also know the light on the other side. Today, my life is a testimony of prayer, the joy of a second chance in marriage, and the strength of a heart reclaimed by faith. Whether you are healing from the past, navigating a diverse family, or deepening your walk with God—you are not alone. Let’s walk this path together.
