And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

Good day! The news shows another weather event and, unbelievably, cleared store shelves. It makes you wonder why people don’t prepare for the winter months, right? This summer, my sister and I made sure we were stocked up on essentials that store for months or even years. We are set. With that said, let me share my feelings on kind people once again.

The rush to help others is a natural impulse for kind-hearted people. But there’s a crucial truth we must remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Think about that for a moment.

In my active days in church work, I, along with many other young women juggling small children, joined almost every auxiliary. We often forgave taking care of ourselves and our little ones. Looking back, I would offer my younger self this advice:

  • Opt out of all but one auxiliary.
  • Attend church on Sunday as a priority.
  • Start a side hustle (10 hours weekly) to generate extra income.
  • Put that money into a special account for annual staycations and a biennial vacation.

The goal? To set a healthy blueprint for your children—showing them how to sustain a healthy spiritual life while simultaneously helping others, not at the expense of your own well-being.

Let’s prioritize our own well-being so we can truly be of service to others.

A Prayer for Sustaining Kindness

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for Your Presence with us each day. We praise You for Your unending love and the grace You pour into our lives, which is new every morning.

Our Purpose is to be a reflection of Your kindness in the world. Help us to find the right balance, understanding that we must be filled to overflowing before we can truly nourish others. We lift up a Petition for wisdom in setting boundaries and for the strength to prioritize our own physical, mental, and spiritual health. Pardon us for the times we have neglected our well-being in an attempt to people-please or meet endless demands.

We ask for Your Protection over our energy and our time, so we may use both wisely. Give us the Persistence to create healthy habits and model a sustainable life for the next generation. May all our efforts bear fruit in Your time.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
