Where the Spirit Is

“SEEK MY FACE, and you will find not only My Presence but also My Peace. To receive My Peace, you must change your grasping, controlling stance to one of openness and trust. The only thing you can grasp without damaging your soul is My hand. Ask My Spirit within you to order your day and control your thoughts, for the mind controlled by the Spirit is Life and Peace.

You can have as much of Me and My Peace as you want through thousands of correct choices each day. The most persistent choice you face is whether to trust Me or to worry. You will never run out of things to worry about, but you can choose to trust Me no matter what. I am an ever-present help in trouble. Trust Me, though the earth give way and the mountains full into the heart of the sea.” Romans 8:6 Psalm 46:1-2 taken from Jesus is Calling

Over the past two to three weeks, I have experienced significant stress, particularly due to the extensive media coverage and private conversations regarding President Trump’s actions. Usually, once our new president is sworn in, I go about my life and let things unfold as they may. However, the private conversations about his actions and their potential impact on Black America have been exhausting. Those discussions have greatly affected me because many in the Black community have turned away from God. Instead of seeking divine guidance, they look for the loudest and most self-serving voices to represent us when we, as a community, should first seek God’s presence and then address the issues at hand.  Sigh.  Let’s pray!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. I ask for Your spirit to surround the United States and its people. I implore that peace be granted to all, regardless of our leadership. I pray that when our President makes decisions, his actions reflect Your will. Amen.

Perfect Peace in Questionable Times

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

As the world watches with bated breath, the Commander-in-Chief of the United States has decided to impose a 25% tariff on Canada, Mexico and 10% tariff on China. Upon hearing his decision and witnessing a snippet of him signing the Executive Order, I felt deeply anxious due to the unknown repercussions. However, soon after, I was restored to a renewed hope and faith in my country and God. Let’s pray!

PRAYER

Father God, thank you again for another day to live with your grace and in your mercy. My country needs you more now than ever before. Our current leader needs you now more than he probably has ever needed you before. Surround Him with people you can trust. Search his total being and help him search his heart and his thoughts before making decisions for America. I ask that You instill renewed hope in those who love America and those who, despite their grievances, call America their home. Amen.

Day Four – Removing Mental Clutter

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

A few days ago, life felt intense! Two close friends shared their concerns about what is happening on Capitol Hill and how it could impact Black America. Each discussion ventured into unfamiliar territory. While I can put a face to what’s going on, I don’t fully understand the internal workings and couldn’t offer any comfort regarding our nation’s instability, except for giving personal advice urging them to keep striving for their dreams. That’s something I recommend everyone do in uncertain times. Let’s pray for positive outcomes in every situation.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, a spirit of discontent looms over America, wreaking havoc both within and beyond our borders. This spirit sows seeds of doubt, strife, envy, hatred, and self-righteousness, leading to reckless and abusive behavior among people. As a result, it robs us of dignity in our interactions, both publicly and privately. Lord, I ask you to bind this spirit and release the spirit of love—love for oneself, love for family, love for humanity, love for our country, and most importantly, love for you. Amen.

Day Three – Removing Mental Clutter

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1Timothy 2:1-2 NIV

I remember feeling disheartened after President Obama’s first election victory, especially with how my husband reacted when I accepted Obama as my Commander-in-Chief. Adding to my sadness, a few African American friends and family disowned me for voting for Obama’s opponent.

At that time, I was running a small online business that wasn’t large enough to require filing taxes with the IRS [Internal Revenue Service]. I had heard Barack Obama felt there should be a cap on how much money a person could earn on internet sales before falling into a tax bracket. Because of this, I supported Mitt Romney for president, believing he wouldn’t impose taxes on online sales.

I immediately recognized Barack Obama’s intelligence and polished image as a politician, along with the significant support he garnered from influential figures like Oprah. As a result, my main concern with this particular election was voting to ensure Barack didn’t win! Again, he was a. strong opponent, and his victory would affect how I reached my goal of becoming a large retailer.

Sadly, my fears were realized. As President Obama took office, he implemented changes to increase government revenue, including taxation, that impacted my small minority business. Yes, I could have applied for a business loan for minorities, but that would have placed me on several radars, something I wanted to avoid. Yet, despite my worries, I found success during his presidency. I was determined to demonstrate that I could thrive despite challenges.

At one point, I was making at least $70,000 a year, and yes, it went untaxed. As stated, the money was well spent and reinvested within my small company.

I ran my business using a name that didn’t show I was a Black woman, a strategy I learned in my college business class. My priority was to ensure my customers felt confident that their orders would be shipped quickly, rather than focusing on the owner’s identity.

As I mentioned, I didn’t want Obama to win because I believed he and his administration would hinder my growth as a business owner. Honestly, my voting decisions aren’t influenced solely by party affiliation; I also consider campaign promises. I would have voted the way I did, regardless of whether the candidate was a Democrat or a Republican.

As a Black American, I prioritize campaign promises over party affiliation when I vote. My main focus is on achieving financial stability and fostering generational wealth. I believe that determination should serve as the foundation for success, rather than being swayed by who is leading the nation. After all, promises are often like pie crust—easily made and easily broken.

The closure of my flourishing business cannot be attributed to Obama; rather, it stemmed from my own decisions and my struggle to prioritize family obligations beyond just my husband and children. Ultimately, I lost sight of my goals while seeking emotional fulfillment and acceptance from those who didn’t recognize me as part of their community or family.

As a result, I found myself flat on my back and no one to help me get back up. My husband and my children were sick and tired of me and the whole lot that steam from wanting to be a part of where I came from. My husband and children love me, sadly, none of them knew how to operate my business; therefore, they couldn’t help me as they watched my dream die helplessly because I wasn’t mentally available to guide them. Now I see why it’s essential for companies to have handbooks outlining their procedures and protocols from the start. These documents ensure consistency, clarity, and efficiency in the workplace.

I recognize that I am in a period of growth, gradually gaining strength as I move away from experiences that once constrained me. Today, I find myself in anticipation of a business call that holds significant potential. I am currently engaged in the process of relaunching my online business, with a focus on promoting my designs, which I firmly believe are of great value. While my objectives are still in the early phases of development, I am encouraged by the initial signs of momentum and support for my endeavors despite who is my Commander and Chief.

Now that we’ve reflected on my past experiences, let us turn our attention to the important issue at hand: achieving financial security. Despite the obstacles we may face, we have the resilience to navigate through them. I encourage you to be mindful of how confusing or negative information can cloud judgment and potentially impede progress. It is vital to remain optimistic and not be swayed by those who amplify fear. The pursuit of what we truly need as individuals is a commendable endeavor that sometimes involves telling people to mind their business. God’s word say’s we should strive for “peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Let’s pray!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we express our gratitude for the blessing of this day. We humbly request the strength to navigate life’s challenges as we include the leaders in every capacity in our prayers, regardless of their rank or responsibilities. We ask that you be with them continuously and guide their hearts and minds in making decisions that impact those under their leadership, for they serve as stewards. We seek protection for all through your mighty hand of grace and mercy. Amen.

Day Two – Removing Clutter

Last night, I struggled to organize my donation and giveaway piles. My body was tired, but my spirit urged me to continue. While sorting my books, I discovered a small collection of poems by Helen Steiner Rice. Finding the tiny book of faithful gems prompted me to call a friend who used to own it. Our nearly hour-long conversation touched on my personality and the challenges facing dreamers. Yes, I am a dreamer.

I can generate brilliant and mediocre ideas, but I often struggle to realize my dreams. I’m not alone, and my shortcomings don’t always hold me back. When it’s time to act, God helps me fulfill His purpose, providing strength during challenging moments. As I write my truths, I know once again that I’m not alone; therefore, I encourage others facing similar struggles to join me in making positive changes to achieve an abundant lifestyle.

I have no prayers for today. Sorry. But! I’m sharing a poem of faith with the hope it’s inspirational. Have a great day living your best life! ~Annette

Climb ‘Til Your Dream Comes True

Often your tasks will be many,
And more than you think you can do.
Often the road will be rugged
And the hills insurmountable, too.

But always remember, the hills ahead
Are never as steep as they seem,
And with Faith in your heart start upward
And climb ‘Til you reach your dream.

For nothing in life that is worthy
Is never too hard to achieve
If you have the courage to try it
And you have the Faith to believe.

For Faith is a force that is greater
Than knowledge or power or skill
And many defeats turn to triumph
If you trust in God’s wisdom and will.

For Faith is a mover of mountains.
There’s nothing that God cannot do,
So start out today with Faith in your heart
And “Climb ‘Til Your Dream Comes True” !

Reset on Decluttering – Day One

When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready . . . The teacher will Disappear. Tao Te Ching

Greetings from the Midwest! For the past few years, I’ve felt like I was on a struggle bus. But today, I’m in a much better place—mentally and emotionally, spiritually I’m riding in an Uber! It’s clear to see the true and living God is showing His presence in my life.

I’m now moving forward with intention. I’ve started decluttering my space and surrounding myself with people who uplift me. Some are here by invitation, others have come into my life naturally through shared interests, and a few have intruded! Can you guess which ones I’ve firmly nudged towards the exit? While it’s not always easy to remove people from our lives, preparing ourselves mentally and emotionally for their absence is crucial. Now, let’s discuss my ongoing mission to help us eliminate clutter and embrace a more positive lifestyle.

Today, I’m tackling my book collection! I hadn’t realized just how many books I owned until I ran out of space on my shelf. I kept voicing my dilemma about parting with the ones I love. Surely, I can’t love every book on my shelves! In reality, I often fell in love with the titles without even knowing the content. My approach to selecting books mirrors how I used to choose boyfriends: I’d pick someone based on looks, only to discover later that he was a bad read—truly rotten to the core!

Now, I consider many qualities that make a good person great for me. Not that I’m looking for a partner, but just saying! And if my husband were to pass away, I won’t be replacing him with a human. Instead, I’m planning to get a dog and the best quilting machine available!  Let’s pray!

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for your grace and mercies. Please give us clarity on how to declutter our homes and our lives. Amen

Removing Clutter!

Today as I began my day I found this post among my published writings. It was just what the doctor ordered for a Monday! The content got my heart pumping and my spirit moving! So! I’m reblogging it! Have a great day living your best life! ~Annette

Day Forty Two – Removing Clutter

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,”

Ephesians 3:20

Yesterday, I did something unexpected and amazing! I took down the once white faux plantation blinds in the kitchen window. Sadly they had turned several shades of brown, ranging from near white to a dark dirty scary splotchy browns.  And adding to their unsightly appearance was the heavy gray dust that probably was hosting a party for germs of all sorts. Honestly, I’d seen the condition of the blinds a month or so ago from the outside and made a mental note to clean them. Yet, cleaning those blinds didn’t seem as important to me as nursing my depression, disappointments, anger, and etc. But, yesterday, as I stood at the kitchen window listening to Priscilla Shirer, I felt the spirit of the living God move within me.  It was clear it didn’t matter what choir I did as long as I did something to show I was still in the game of life.  So, I got the small ladder we use to climb in bed.  Took it to the sink cabinet.  Climb up.  Unlatched the brackets holding up the blinds.  Took the blinds down.  I filled one side of the sink with one third of water and added a large amount of Clorox to a few drops of Dawn.  The process of washing the blinds was not easy because my mind is filled with everything.  Yet, I managed to clean the blinds and was blessed with a feeling of accomplishment at the end.  A feeling I’ve been longing to experience but couldn’t because of my mindset of feeling overwhelmed.  Let’s pray!

PRAYER:

Father God, most times we are blind to the meaning of our emotions.  Please remove the scales off our spiritual eyes that prohibit us from seeing spiritually and let us see why we do what we do.  Afterwards, give us your peace, your understanding and your strength to make necessary changes that will help us grow in you.  Amen

Bouncing Back From Bad Choices

Every Friday I read the thoughts of several WordPress bloggers. Today, I read several that talked about rejoicing in the pain of self and or others.  My soul was saying “what the heck are you reading!”  After losing the ability to unread those blogs where the messages went horribly wrong, I came upon a blog post that gives hope.  It is an easy read that has a strong message God cares for us.  And the loss of hope is the reason why those other posts weren’t [in my opinion] great reads.  Yet, I was committed to find at least one post that held aspiration.  And!  I found it!  And!  I’m sharing it!  Enjoy! ~Annette

Day Forty One – Removing Clutter

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’ve become addicted to YouTube. Yes, you’ve read correctly! I’m always surfing the following topics, homesteading, remodeling, how to make vanilla extract, genealogy and quilting. And as you know I should be cleaning and decluttering. I have one year to gather the fragments of my life before my husband, me and possibly my youngest son move to another part of Colorado.

But in the meantime, for some strange reason a channel keeps popping up on my feed as something I might enjoy. So! One day I decided to watch it after a title grabbed my attention. The video was of a husband and wife remodeling their [new to them] doublewide.

As I sat watching them install fake beams I concluded the wife was extremely annoying; therefore, I stayed clear of clicking on their channel. Well! In the wee hours of the morning guess what channel popped up for me to watch again! Yep! The annoying woman!

I gave her another chance! This time she did not disappoint! She was talking about decluttering her children’s bedroom, being an understanding mom, addressing her shortcomings and arriving at a junction where things work for her. But! The one thing she said that struck a chord with me mentally and emotionally was “no one wants to live in clutter.” Let’s pray!

PRAYER

Father God, no one wants to live in clutter. Yet, life happens. Clutter happens. And sometimes people find themselves living in conditions they would never live in otherwise.  Help them to fix the problem that hinders them from becoming the person they are destined to become.  Amen
